Any stable surface. Ceramic tile, stone, metal trivet, wood. Just make sure it's not somewhere it can be bumped.
No. The terracotta handles heat well. Hairline marks over time are cosmetic and safe.
Let it cool. Wipe with a dry cloth. Scrape residue gently with wood. Never submerge in water.
